CBR III Review #133: Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez

CBR III Review #133: Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez

Carmen is violin prodigy and the biggest competition of her life is quickly approaching. The Guarneri competition only comes along every few years and the winner is guaranteed to be a star.  However, her main competition is Jeremy and Carmen finds herself slowly falling for him, but she can't help but question his intentions.  Does he really like her or is he trying to shake her confidence before the competition.   Carmen is also hiding an addiction to anti-anxiety medication.  She did it so she wouldn't be so nervous on stage but she has started to realize that it's becoming harder and harder for her to feel anything at all.

I really enjoyed this one.  It looks into the world of prescription drug addition, stage parents, and all the pressure that is put on prodigies at such an early age.  It had an ending I wasn't expecting but I really enjoyed it even though it's not my normal type of novel.
