CBR III Review #138: Hereafter by Tara Hudson

CBR III Review #138: Hereafter by Tara Hudson

Amelia knows she is dead.  She has been for many years but she has no memories of her death and she has no idea how long she has been dead.  She has simply been drifting hoping to have contact with something or someone.  Joshua's car goes over the bridge where Amelia has been hanging around and she manages to save him from drowning.  After his near death experience he can see Amelia and no one else saw the girl who helped save him from the river.  He goes back to the river to see if he can find her and Amelia and Joshua start up a strange relationship.

I really liked the premise of this novel.  There was not going to be any happy ending. Unless Joshua died or Amelia was magically brought back to life this was not going to be a novel where everyone "lived" happily ever after.  ***Spoilers**** Apparently I was wrong.  A living teenage boy and dead teenage girl ghost can have a perfectly happy relationship expect the fact no one can really see her.  What a load of crap.

The rest of the novel was actually pretty decent and I like the investigation into Amelia's death, but a ghost and boy making out and planning a future together was simply too much for my suspense of disbelief.  If you want a happy gooey ending don't write a novel where your main character starts of dead.  You don't have much wiggle room.
