CBR III Review #148: Clarity by Kim Harrington

CBR III Review #148: Clarity by Kim Harrington

Clare is a freak show.  Her mother reads minds, her brother is a medium, and she can receive visions from objects she touches.  Too make matters worse her family makes a living by flaunting their talent and giving readings to tourist in their town.  These things combine make Clare an outsider in her town, and the one person that made her feel normal cheated on her with her worse enemy and she can't forgive him no matter how hard he begs for forgiveness.

However, Clare's personal problems are put on hold when a tourist is murdered and her brother just happened to be the last person to see her.  "See her" in the biblical sense that is. Her ex-boyfriend ask her to use her talents on the case since his father is the Mayor and running for reelection.  She agrees but mostly because they will also be working with the head detective's son.  The super cute mysterious new kid in town...that just happens to hate psychics.

Clarity is a quick murder mystery with a dash of love triangle.  It's a cute book and I enjoyed it.  It felt a little short in character development but with it being so short that is too be expected.  I'm assuming this is going to be a new young adult series with a new "who done it" every book.  I'm interested in reading a bit more on the love triangle, but I can't say the mystery was highly developed.  It almost read like one of the old Fear Street books, in regards to the fact that each chapter ends with a little bit of a cliffhanger that is quickly resolved with the "villain" being the only character it could logically be.
